Don't let the door hit you on the way out

Aram Sinnreich, a media industry consultant at Radar Research in Los Angeles, said the CD format, introduced in the United States 24 years ago, is in its death throes. “Everyone in the industry thinks of this Christmas as the last big holiday season for CD sales,” Mr. Sinnreich said, “and then everything goes kaput.”

Buh-bye.

I have no particular animus toward the compact disc--quite the contrary. But my feelings are quite different re the industry that lives off them. Music's gonna be just fine. Indie artists gonna be just fine. The death of the "music industry" (which ought to be considered an oxymoron if it isn't already) can't come soon enough.
