Sound round-up

Ok, it's that time of year. Time to pick the best musicks. At least half of my top 10 is still up for grabs, so point me toward stuff that I need to check out before making my final list. Go!

I think og. soundtracks can be included, but I have to count comp soundtracks out of the running. Sorry American Hardcore.

I do still need to listen to that Cursive record in its entirety. I'm skeptical about the rest of your list Erik... but if you burn me copies I'll give 'em a spin.

Rolling Stone's 'best songs of 2006'
1. Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"

The GB album is really good. I have no problem with "Crazy" being number one. It was, at least, the most ubiquitous song of the year.

2. The Raconteurs - "Steady as she Goes"

Ok song, moderately amusing video. If this is the second best song of the year, '06 was a musical graveyard.

3. Chamillionaire - "Ridin"

Catchy as hell.

4. T.I. - "What You Know"

Not familiar.

5. The Pack - "Vans"

Pack is the name of a good Swedish hardcore band.

6. Bob Dylan - "Thunder on the Mountain"

Isn't that a Mastodon song?

7. Lily Allen - "Smile"

I've no idea who you are, so no - I won't smile.

8. Clipse with Slim Thug - "Wamp Wamp (What it Do)"

The album has great beats and totally uninspiring rhymes (see: the title of this song).

9. Wolfmother - "Dimension"

Space doesn't allow me to list all the "wolf" bands who are probably better than these guys.

10. Goldfrapp - "Ooh La La"

Have not listened to these guys. Who wants to be awarded with the 10th best song of the year anyway?
