Head of the class

If, at age 11, you have already "long opposed armies of any kind," you probably have a bright future ahead of you.

The irony, here, of course, is that the authorities in this case are citing Columbine as the context for their paranoia. Lest we forget: Columbine was a massacre carried out by two students who wrote countless school essays fetishizing military violence, who declared they wished they were the first troops on the ground in Kosovo, and who were rejected in their attempts to join the Marines just 5 days before their rampage.

The idea that a child *rejecting* those institutions somehow indicates a similar trajectory is ludicrous (whatever one's politics). It demonstrates an astounding lack of basic reading comprehension skills.
